LibreChat

Everything around it is yours to pay for: model API spend, web-search API keys, hosting for four or five services (reviewers measure roughly 1.5 GB of RAM idle), and the engineering time to configure, upgrade, and secure it. There is no support contract to buy even if you want one.

Is LibreChat really free?

Yes — the software is MIT-licensed with no paid tiers, and the formerly paid code interpreter was open-sourced under ClickHouse in 2026. The costs are everything around it: model API keys, third-party web-search keys, hosting for several services, and the engineering time to configure, upgrade, and secure the deployment.

Does LibreChat connect to Slack or my company's data?

Not out of the box. LibreChat runs in a browser with no Slack, Teams, or mobile apps; Metabase, for example, wrote its own Slack bot on top of it. Company knowledge is limited to files users upload, through a separately deployed RAG API, with no permission inheritance from source systems. Fig runs in-channel in Slack, connects natively to your systems, and grounds answers in Enterprise Graph context.
