Careers / Deployment

Forward Deployed Engineer

This is not an implementation role. You will build things that run a customer's business, and you are the one they call when it matters.

Apply for this role

The role

Fig deploys its AI platform inside businesses and runs the transformation with them. Forward Deployed Engineers are the people who make it real. You join a small pod with a Deployment Strategist, walk into a company that has decided to change how it operates, and leave behind AI systems that run part of it: connected to their data, governed by their rules, adopted by their people.

You will spend most weeks inside one or two accounts. Some of that time is in a conference room with operations leaders working out what should change. Most of it is building: connectors into systems that were never designed to be connected, agents that carry work across those systems, and the monitoring that lets the customer trust what runs.

What you'll do

  • Own one or two customer deployments end to end: discovery, integration into their ERP, CRM and data warehouse, building agents and workflows on the Fig platform, go-live, and the first ninety days of adoption.
  • Ship a first version in days, then harden it over weeks with evals, monitoring and a rollout plan the customer's team can run.
  • Spend two to three days a week on site during a deployment. The rest of the week you build.
  • Stay the customer's technical contact after go-live. There is no separate support or customer success team between you and them.
  • Bring what broke in the field back to the platform team, and push reusable pieces into the product so the next customer gets them for free.

What we look for

  • Three or more years shipping production software. Comfortable across backend, data and LLM tooling, and willing to pick up whichever of the three the week needs.
  • Have integrated with real enterprise systems: NetSuite, SAP, Salesforce, Snowflake, on-prem SQL, or the undocumented internal tool that runs everything.
  • Have shipped LLM features to real users and debugged model behavior in production, not only in a notebook.
  • Can run a room of operations leaders who have never written code, and leave with a decision.
  • Self-directed. You do not need a manager to tell you what is next, and you say so when the plan is wrong.

Nice to have

  • Time in a forward-deployed, solutions or consulting role where you were accountable for a customer's outcome.
  • Experience in industrials, distribution, consumer brands or insurance.
  • Python and TypeScript, and opinions about when each one is wrong.

Location and travel

Based in Chicago, New York or Dallas, or relocating to one of them. Travel is around 40 percent, mostly within your region, and one week a quarter is spent with the platform team in San Francisco.

About Fig

Fig's mission is to change how businesses operate. We build AI systems that run inside companies, on their data, their rules and their choice of models, and we deploy them with a team that stays until the work is running. More than 300,000 professionals in over 70 countries already work with Fig every day.

We are majority employee-owned. There is no outside board setting the pace and no fundraising cycle to perform for. We answer to our customers and to each other, and the people who build the company own it.

The team is small and talent-dense. We like people who are direct, who would rather ship than present, and who take a customer's problem personally.
