The role
A team of generalists builds the platform that every Fig deployment runs on: the agent runtime and evals, the connector framework, the tooling that stands a customer environment up in hours, security and identity, and the product surface customers see. You lead it, and you build in it.
The job is to keep a small team shipping a platform that survives real customer environments while the field discovers new ones every month. That means architecture decisions that hold, a roadmap driven by what deployments actually need, and a hiring bar that keeps the team small on purpose.
What you'll do
- Own the architecture of the platform: what is a platform feature, what stays a deployment-specific piece, and when field-built work gets pulled into the product.
- Run the roadmap with the Head of Deployment: a ranked list of what breaks in the field, and a weekly release that fixes it.
- Hire and grow the platform engineers, and keep the team small enough that everyone knows the whole system.
- Write code. Take the hardest lane yourself when nobody else can, and review everything that ships.
- Own production: reliability, cost, model performance, and the on-call rotation you are part of.
What we look for
- Ten or more years building production software, with at least three leading an engineering team under fifteen people.
- Has designed a system that was deployed into many customer environments and lived with the consequences.
- Has shipped LLM systems to real users and has strong, tested opinions on agents, evals and model routing.
- Still codes, wants to, and can show it.
- Direct with the founders, generous with the team, and clear in writing.
Nice to have
- Experience with enterprise identity, permissions and audit, and the security reviews that come with them.
- Time in a company where a field team deployed the product you built.
Location
San Francisco, in the office four days a week with the platform team.
