Careers / Product Engineering

Product Designer

You are the only designer here, and the product manager too. What a plant manager sees at six in the morning is yours.

Apply for this role

The role

Fig's users are operations leaders, finance teams and warehouse supervisors who did not ask for new software and will stop using it the first time it wastes their morning. You own the surface they see, across web, desktop, mobile and the shared workspaces where the work happens, and the judgment about what to build next.

There is no product management team. You do the specs, the customer research, the prioritization with the Head of Engineering, and the documentation, because at this size the person who talks to users and the person who decides what ships should be the same person.

What you'll do

  • Design the product surface: the workspaces, the agent interactions, the admin and governance screens, and the design system that keeps them consistent.
  • Spend time inside customer deployments with the pods, watching real people use Fig, and bring back what to fix.
  • Write the specs the platform team builds from, and keep the roadmap honest about what users need versus what is interesting.
  • Ship. Work in the codebase where it is faster than handing off, and pair with engineers when it is not.
  • Own the docs and the in-product guidance that let a customer's team run Fig without us.

What we look for

  • Six or more years designing software people use for work, with at least one product you owned end to end.
  • Has done the product management job, formally or not, and can show a decision that was right and one that was wrong.
  • Comfortable in the codebase: can prototype in the front end and read the rest.
  • Has designed for AI features that fail sometimes, and knows how to make that honest and recoverable.
  • Writes clearly. Specs, docs and research notes are half the job.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing tools for operations, logistics or finance users.
  • Has built or maintained a design system that engineers actually used.

Location

San Francisco, in the office four days a week with the platform team, with regular trips to customer sites.

About Fig

Fig's mission is to change how businesses operate. We build AI systems that run inside companies, on their data, their rules and their choice of models, and we deploy them with a team that stays until the work is running. More than 300,000 professionals in over 70 countries already work with Fig every day.

We are majority employee-owned. There is no outside board setting the pace and no fundraising cycle to perform for. We answer to our customers and to each other, and the people who build the company own it.

The team is small and talent-dense. We like people who are direct, who would rather ship than present, and who take a customer's problem personally.
